Technical Things

As a new media solutions provider, we are skilled in a range of technical applications. Below is a listing of the programming languages that we utilise to produce our solutions:

Web servers

ASP - Active Server Pages are Microsoft's server-side technology for dynamically-generated web pages that are marketed as an add-on to Internet Information Services (IIS).

Most ASP pages are written in VBScript, but any other Active Scripting engine can be selected instead by using the @Language directive or the <script language="language" runat="server"> syntax. JScript (Microsoft's implementation of ECMAScript) is the other language that is usually available. PerlScript (a derivative of Perl) and others are available as third-party installable Active Scripting engines.

ASP.Net - Even though ASP.NET takes its name from Microsoft's old web development technology, ASP, the two differ significantly. Microsoft has completely rebuilt ASP.NET, based on the Common Language Runtime (CLR) shared by all Microsoft .NET applications. Programmers can write ASP.NET code using any of the different programming languages supported by the .NET Framework, usually C#, Visual Basic.NET, or JScript .NET, but also including open-source languages such as Perl and Python. ASP.NET has performance benefits over other script-based technologies because the server-side code is compiled to one or a few DLL files on a web server.

Usability

PHP - PHP is an open-source, reflective programming language. Originally designed as a high-level tool for producing dynamic web content, PHP is used mainly in server-side applications.

HTML - HyperText Markup Language is a markup language designed for the creation of web pages with hypertext and other information to be displayed in a web browser. HTML is used to structure information - denoting certain text as headings, paragraphs, lists and so on - and can be used to describe, to some degree, the appearance and semantics of a document.

Java - Java refers to a number of computer software products and specifications from Sun Microsystems (the Java™ technology) that together provide a system for developing and deploying cross-platform applications. Java is used in a wide variety of computing platforms spanning from embedded devices and cell phones on the low end to enterprise servers and super computers on the high end. Java is fairly ubiquitous in cell phones, Web servers and enterprise applications, and somewhat less common in desktop applications, though users may have come across Java applets when browsing the web.

Usability

Actionscript - ActionScript is an ECMAScript-based programming language used for scripting Adobe Flash movies and applications. Since both ActionScript and JavaScript are based on the same ECMAScript syntax, fluency in one theoretically translates easily to the other. However, while JavaScript's DOM is browser window-, document- and form-centric, the ActionScript DOM is movie-centric, which may include animations, audio, text and event handling.

Lingo - Lingo is the scripting language that we use when creating solutions with Macromedia Director, one of the leading applications for development of interactive multimedia solutions. This language offers advanced capabilities such as Object-oriented programming (OOP), allowing us to build solutions varying in complexity from basic linking right through to artificial intelligence.

For real-world examples of the solutions we provide, explore the case studies section or contact us to arrange a presentation.
